Summer Youth Leadership Academy

The Winslow Summer Youth Leadership Academy is a four-week summer program taking place at Winslow’s facilities. This program is supported by the Orange County Youth Bureau for youth entering 7th, 8th and 9th grades and was developed to equip middle school aged youth, with the practical skills needed to become productive, self-fulfilled and achievement-oriented adults and community leaders. The program empowers young people by developing their inherent leadership potential and by opening the doors to new opportunities.

Our program incorporates positive youth development through an integrated curriculum of work experience, cultural enrichment, mentoring and the acquisition of life skills, job skills and leadership training. Activities will take place both on and off-facility depending on the learning objective. All of this combined with mounted and unmounted equine-assisted activities such as: group therapeutic riding lessons, horse care and horsemanship activities. It encourages participants to become self-sufficient, self-reflective and self-empowered. This program is only open to 15 participants. Participants are chosen through an interview process.
