Winslow Therapeutic Center offers Instructor Training Courses
several times each year, as well as College Accredited Internships
Instructor Training Courses
The course will prepare the candidate for national
certification as a North American Riding for the Handicapped
(NARHA) Registered Instructor.
The educational portion of the course runs for 8 weeks, meeting
once a week for three hours of instruction, both in the classroom
and in the riding arena.
Coursework will cover a full range of topics required for
certification: Cognitive and physical disabilities, work with
youth at risk, sensory integration, autism, the therapy horse,
safe handling of horses and riders, how to teach an effective
lesson, ethics and professional standards, adaptive equipment
and lesson planning.
The second part of the course is the Practical Teaching Experience.
Candidates will work with a certified instructor to set goals
and create lesson plans for a group of Winslow riders. As
your skills grow and develop, you will take on more and more
responsibility for teaching the group, working with volunteers,
and handling the horses.
Each candidate is required to volunteer for 25 hours and
perform supervised teaching for 25 hours. Additional teaching
time can be offered if the candidate or Winslow staff deems
it necessary for Certification.
On-site NARHA Certification is offered at Winslow several
times each year. (See below and on the Seminars

Beginning
in September - Internship Program:
runs for 8 weeks- every Tuesday from 9am-12pm. This course
will prepare the candidate for national certification as a
North American Riding for the Handicapped (NARHA) Registered
Instructor. The educational portion of the course runs for
8 weeks, meeting once a week for three hours of instruction,
both in the classroom and in the riding arena.
Coursework will cover a full range of topics required for
certification. Maximum participants:12 Cost: $500
